About SPW URJAA
SPW URJAA is a Nepali non-profit organization registered in Lalitpur in April 2003. The organization was originally known as SPW Nepal and changed its name to SPW URJAA in June 2018. “URJAA” means “Energy,” representing the positive energy of young people.
URJAA prepares and empowers young people in Nepal to lead change through youth-led development and works to increase young people’s participation in decision-making at community and national levels.
SPW URJAA has implemented projects focused on education, youth leadership, community development, gender equality, social inclusion, and emergency response, supporting children and young people across Nepal.
Funded by UNICEF, the project was focused on building the safe space for the students and teacher to run their regular school activities post-Earthquake. The project supported in building the Temporary Learning Centers and provided the psychosocial trainings to the teachers. The project also provided the learning kits for the students. The project was implemented in 7 mostly earthquake affected districts. The total budget of the project was about 400,000 USD.
Funded by FCDO, we mobilized more than 200 national and international volunteers in the rural community schools in Lalitpur. They were place in the community for 3 to 4 months and work closely with the school to deliver the curriculum focused on SRH, Environment and financial literacy. They engage Green Clubs in conducting various extra-curricular activities and strengthen their governance, choosing the leadership through the democratic practices. This project also mobilized the alumni to respond the Covid-19 pandemic through the ICS Pivot project. The project was for 3 years and the total budget of the project were about 150,000 USD.
The project was funded by Norec with an objective to actively engage in community development and to promote global citizenship. The main purpose of the project was to provide a platform for a national youth to enhance their leadership and create positive impact within the organization and in their communities. The project was led by the 8 youth over two years period and covered 6 schools in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Dhanusha districts. This project engaged youth from the sexual minority communities and partnered with Federation of Sexual Minority in Nepal (FSGMN). The total budget of the project is about 30,000 USD.
Nepal Rapid Action Team (NRAT), formed in 2022 from the successful COVID-19 Rapid Action Taskforce model, is a non-profit humanitarian response network built on the principle “From Nepali People to Nepali Communities. Currently, NRAT is hosted by SPW Urjaa with the consortium partners SPW Urjaa, Volunteer Service in Nepal, SETU Nepal and The Small Earth Nepal.
” Following the recent Rasuwa and Nuwakot flood disaster, NRAT mobilized volunteers, collected and distributed food and relief supplies door-to-door, and delivered aid to displaced families at holding centers like Chandra Jyoti Secondary School. Field teams in Nuwakot and Rassuwa assessed urgent needs in health, sanitation, and biomedical equipment repair, while coordinating with local authorities and communities.
NRAT emphasizes rapid, transparent, needs-based response with professional skills, and now seeks partnerships with donors, humanitarian organizations, and technical experts to sustain relief efforts and support recovery for flood-affected households across Nepal’s crisis zones.
